Return from a Summer Abroad

Student Relaxing on Boat

Follow these steps to complete the transfer credit process.

Request an official transcript

To transfer credit from your summer abroad, we must receive your transcript directly from your study abroad program or university (we cannot accept transcripts from students). Please request an official transcript sent to:

Paper Transcripts:
Office of International Education
1414 Massachusetts Avenue, 3rd Floor
Cambridge, MA 02138

Electronic Transcripts:
oie@fas.harvard.edu

The OIE cannot provide you with an official study abroad transcript. Remember to request official transcripts for yourself for purposes of applying to fellowships, graduate school, etc.

Complete final transfer credit steps

  • If you took a language instruction course abroad, consult the Language Credit Policy to learn about next steps and if a placement exam is required. If it is, contact the respective language department advisor to arrange an exam as soon as your program has ended. Please note that Spanish language exams should be coordinated directly with the Placement Office at placement-help@fas.harvard.edu.
  • To request that a study abroad course be counted toward the language requirement, a language citation, or a secondary field requirement, please contact the respective department for guidance once the transfer credit has been posted to your Harvard record.
  • To request that a course be approved to fulfill a divisional distribution requirement, email divdist@fas.harvard.edu
