The Office of International Education (OIE) supports students through its dual role
- Facilitating enriching and engaging study abroad experiences for an academic year, a semester, and/or summer
- Providing academic and social support services to enrolled undergraduate international students
In both of these roles, we partner with other College and University offices and are guided by the academic standards of Harvard College.
Mission and Goals
It is the mission of the Office of International Education to help all Harvard undergraduates to plan for a significant international experience.
Our goals are to provide enriching, engaging, and supported international experiences for all Harvard College students through:
Comprehensive and holistic study abroad advising, from researching programs to ensuring a smooth reentry upon completion of the abroad experience
Comprehensive and holistic academic and social support and advising to international students through partnering and collaborating with University and College departments
More About Our Mission and Goals
Guided by the commitment to international education by the Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs and academic standards set forth by the Office of Undergraduate Education, the OIE partners with offices and departments across the University to ensure Harvard College students are provided with opportunities for transformative international experiences, whether studying abroad around the world or in Cambridge as international undergraduates. Collaboration with academic departments, area centers, and other advising offices ensures increased cooperation, shared knowledge, and growth of expertise on study abroad and international student support services at Harvard College.
Through its role on the International Emergency Management Team, overseen by Global Support Services, the OIE ensures clear communication about health and safety policies to international centers, academic departments, and students; actively prepares students in the areas of international health and safety; supports travel tracking across College offices, departments and Centers funding undergraduate students traveling internationally; collaborates on international incident response; and coordinates and implements university-wide data collection on undergraduate international experience for emergency and safety management and reporting for the university.
