Through the Language, Culture & Politics track in Berlin, you'll take courses that explore German History, Culture, Art, and Society through an in-depth and hands-on approach. IES faculty, as well as course options at the prestigious Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, will facilitate a unique academic experience and provide you with new perspectives both in and out of class. Combined with IES-coordinated field trips and excursions, internship, research, or volunteer experiences, and living in a residence hall or shared apartment with locals, will help you settle into life in Berlin!
This program uses Berlin as a case study to examine issues relevant to major cities today. Through comparative and interdisciplinary courses, you'll study topics such as cultural identity, popular culture, and urban development, to better understand the modern city, its politics, and culture. Explore the city's architecture as you learn about urban development and sustainable mobility, discuss concepts of urban governance, or explore Jewish life and culture in the city. Through your coursework and IES-coordinated field trips and excursions, you'll engage with the city's many historical, artistic, and cultural sites.
