Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad - Havana

Malecon

Together with the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS), the Office of International Education offers undergaduate students the opportunity to study abroad in Havana, Cuba through the CASA Consortium.

The Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad - Havana (CASA-Havana), administered by Brown University, provides undergraduate students from Consortium schools (Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, Trinity College Dublin, University of Melbourne, University of Pennsylvania, and Vanderbilt University) with the unique opportunity to have direct access to Cuba's leading institutions of higher learning. The University of Havana and Casa de las Américas, Cuba's premier research institution on Caribbean and Latin American studies, Cuban Culture and the arts. CASA-Havana, the University of Havana and Casa de Las Américas have worked together to develop a program of study that will challenge you to achieve a critical understanding of the key issues facing Cuba today and enable you to interact with some of the country's leading academic experts in the social sciences, arts, and the humanities.

Through participating in the program you will immerse yourself in Cuba, take credit-bearing classes in Spanish alongside Cuban students, and interact with peers who share your intellectual curiousity about Cuba's past, present, and future. Students have the opportunity to enroll in up to four full-time courses, choosing between courses offered through CASA  and the University of Havana (Harvard students are required to enroll in a minimum of two University of Havana courses). CASA courses are delivered to a combined audience of CASA students and some Cuban university students at the CASA program center in Havana.
